When a person leaves a church, even for all the right reasons, people often assume offense is the reason for the person leaving. This can make it awkward to visit people from that church, even when there are strong friendships built there. We have been fortunate in our recent move to not encounter many awkward situations. Last night we had the opportunity to go a birthday for 2 great friends who also happen to be pastors from the church we left. Everyone we met with was very kind and genuinely interested in how we have been doing over the last month and a half.
The most significant conversation of the evening was the one that was the least expected and with the last couple we would have predicted we would share this exchange with. I ran into the worship leader from our old church and we started talking about what I have been doing since the move and after sharing about my new "position" as worship leader he started to share some of the most valuable advice with me. After a few minutes our wives joined in and the synergy the wives brought just elevated the richness and wealth of the wisdom the pastor and his wife were able to share. They were able to help us through some issues that we have been dealing with and were able to encourage us to continue doing what God is leading us to do.
On our way home, Melissa and I were talking about the evening and discussing a particular situation that we were talking about with the pastor and his wife. It was in that moment that God spoke to me. He told me that I did the exact same thing to my previous leader that a team member was doing with me. I immediately repented and called my previous leader, who is also a great friend, to repent to him. We then had a great conversation and he was able to encourage me in my current situation.
In the end, God moved in many situations and just proved his faithfulness. I am being humbled everyday by how God is moving in the most random of situations. He is showing me the importance of being led by the Spirit.
